After signing a MoU with Italy, Chinese President Xi Jinping traveled to France where he met with president Macron to discuss about EU-China cooperation.

Italy and China have just signed a a memorandum of understanding about the Belt and Road intiative. This is a first step towards EU integration in the BRI.
